staircase re-design - new stairs, newels

The "Blonde" Wood Staircase Had to Go!
Last May, I was able to design and re-do my staircase in my home. We had moved to our home in 2007 and it was one of the things that was a complete eye sore every day. My furnishings are mostly of a darker wood and the "blonde" wood staircase had to go!

I hired a specialist in staircase design and I began looking at options for newels and wrought iron posts and decorative balusters. I knew that I wanted to get rid of the "ball" finials on the newels and to start over with a brand new style. I loved the scroll balluster but because of it's busy nature, I wanted to integrate some plain posts to keep the design simple and elegant.

Lastly, I wanted a more finished look with the newels. So, we decided to put a partial "half" newel for placement against the wall (very top left) which gave a really great finished look. It made such a difference in the overall appearance of our home for such an integral part of our house to get The FInishing Touch.
